MovingBeyond (‘MB’) is a not-for-profit (Company Limited by Guarantee) bringing together business, government, civic society to accelerate the UK’s response to climate change and promote more sustainable ways of life. Since 2021, we have been travelling the UK convening, facilitating and catalysing events and projects, whilst growing a community of diverse leaders committed to speeding up the just transition and the journey to NetZero UK.
We are a small core team, but our wider network of ‘MB-ers’ now spans the four corners of the UK, covering many sectors and topic areas related to sustainable development.
Our next MovingBeyond event is happening in Newham with the help of our co-hosts at RAD London, The Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability (RDCS) and Good Hotel. In preparation, we have spent the last several months deepening relations with the Royal Docks Team (a collaboration between London Borough of Newham and the GLA), alongside a range of local stakeholders including local businesses and community groups.
Last year, Newham launched the UK’s first Just Transition Plan to support its local net zero targets. Newham’s seeks to become net zero council by 2030 and net zero as a borough by 2045. The plan shifts focus from a purely decarbonisation approach to a wider stance embedding core principles of increasing equity for residents and adapting to the worsening impacts of climate change. From bold ambitions around a NetZero Neighbourhood in North Woolwich, developing a sustainable food strategy, to building a UK first ‘ectogrid’, we are learning so much about the urban challenge and the opportunity.
The event will run for three days Monday 14th, Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th October and ideally many attendees spend two nights with our accommodation partner Good Hotel (Monday, Tuesday). The core of the event is 9am-5pm each day, plus optional morning programming (7am-8.30 Tuesday & Wednesday) and evening programming (7pm-9pm Monday & Tuesday).
The event is carefully designed to take a cohort of attendees on a 3-day journey whereby each session builds on the next. We do this because building trust and going deep on these topics takes time. To get the full experience, try to commit to the full agenda and immerse yourself in the opportunity. We do appreciate however, that taking three days out of the usual schedule can be challenging for many, so we are allowing for some flexibility. (As part of the registration process you can confirm the sessions you can / cannot attend).
Alongside avoiding any waste, the event hopes to be an intimate experience so it’s important for the team to know the comings and goings, so we can manage the integrity of the space accordingly.
MovingBeyond does not seek to be an end in and of itself, but a catalyst for quality relationship building and sparking ideas that can be taken forward. We also know that this work can be challenging and too often we can feel burnt-out whilst trying to make a difference. At MB, we’re committed to helping everyone feel seen, heard and valued. Beyond the event, attendees are invited to monthly online check-ins, and have access to digital platforms where they can continue to share latest news, projects, and look for support. Our community is growing every year with a wide range of people from across the country in contact every day!
Our event is a unique immersive learning and networking experience, and a great opportunity to develop current and future leaders. More than this, MB really is what you make it. We’ll work hard to bring together a mix of changemakers from different parts of society and to create a safe space to work within… but what happens as a result is really up to you! MB might lead you to kickstarting a new initiative or finding a few important new friendships to help accelerate what you’re already working on. What unifies us is a feeling of being part of something and motivating each other to do more and be more, together.
Thank you for joining us on this journey.
Please consider joining these optional online pre-meet sessions. An informal chance to introduce yourself, meet the MovingBeyond team and fellow attendees, and ask any questions.

MB24 Prep: Welcome letter & background info – DOWNLOAD NOW (Reading time 10 minutes)
This event is about listening, sharing, and taking action based on the insights gained. This short booklet provides some background information to support those conversations without trying to pre-empt the specific talking points. MB, as you will see, seeks to work with emergence and what is needed ‘in the room’. We are all, in someway, holding and co- creating the final agenda.
Designing our futures with Indy Johar – WATCH NOW (Viewing time 1h14 mins)
The MB team came across this video earlier this year, and it would be an understatement to say it moved us and motivated us deeply, and has certainly helped shape our thinking around MB24. Please do give this a watch as part of your prep for MB24. I’m delighted to say he will be joining us for a few hours Monday afternoon.
Indy is an architect by training and a maker by practice, he is a Senior Innovation Associate with the Young Foundation. He, amongst other organisations – co-founded Impact Hub Birmingham and Open Systems Lab, was a member of the RSA’s Inclusive Growth Commission and a good growth advisor to the Mayor of London. He is a explorative practitioner in the means of system change & the dark matter design of civic infrastructure finance, outcomes, and governance. Indy is a Director of 00 and Dark Matter Laboratories.
In addition to the main agenda which runs 9am-5pm each day, there are additional offerings for those who can join us in the evenings and mornings. These sessions can be just as rich as a the day sessions, allowing for continued stimulation (mind, body and soul) and conversations with your fellow attendees in a more relaxed setting. Make the most of it and get involved!
- Catalysing Transformation Workshop
- Monday 14th October, 7pm-8.30pm @ Good Hotel
“What is unfolding that requires support from those of us reimagining the narratives of the present and future?”
Join Karen Downes for an interactive workshop exploring the powerful ideas of Joanna Macy, Prof. Sandra Waddock, and other leading thinkers who have shaped social change. This session will focus on shifting mindsets and behaviours to drive systemic transformation.
Explore how ‘transformation catalysts’, individuals, organisations, and communities can connect and collaborate to create meaningful change. By building self-aware systems, we can address complex challenges, foster more equitable and just communities, and ensure a thriving natural world.
This workshop is for any leaders, professionals, activists, policymakers, and concerned citizens dedicated to shaping a flourishing future.
Karen, founder of The Flourish Initiative and co-founder of FemmeQ, is a social entrepreneur and expert in system change. Join Emeritus Professor Rupert Read, Co-Director of the Climate Majority Project, IPCC Expert Reviewer, and author of ‘Why Climate Breakdown Matters’, for an urgent discussion on the latest climate crisis intelligence and the need for a strategic shift.
Prof. Read will share a brief background of his journey from helping launch Extinction Rebellion to now having established the Climate Majority Project, which aims to facilitate wider mainstream mobilisation. He’ll also share insights from within the UK government and the IPCC, highlighting how the climate situation has worsened over the past six years and what that means for our chances of preventing societal collapse. He’ll outline the need to move beyond reducing emissions to a focus on climate impacts, through “Strategic Adaptation.” Learn how the Climate Majority Project and its SAFER campaign aim to guide this essential pivot and explore how you can be part of building resilience in the face of growing climate threats.
Interactive Q&A included.
- Evening sauna experience
- Tuesday 15th October, 7pm-9pm @ SweHeat (a short walk from Good Hotel)
Join us for ‘Simply Saunagus,’ a unique sauna experience blending heat, essential oils, and music. Guided by a trained ‘gus master,’ you’ll enjoy three 15-minute sessions of towel-swinging techniques that rhythmically disperse hot steam. The two-hour experience includes breaks to cool down and hydrate.
Pure essential oils like peppermint, lavender, and eucalyptus are infused in ice balls on the sauna stove, enhancing the ritual’s health benefits—revitalisation, relaxation, and improved breathing.
With mental and physical benefits such as boosted immunity and pain relief, this experience begins at 7:15 p.m., with drop-ins welcome until 9 p.m. Please bring a towel and swimwear.
- Yoga with Olympia
- Wednesday 16th October, 7am-7.50am @ Good Hotel
- Morning sauna experience
- Wednesday 16th October, 7am-8am @ SweHeat (a short walk from Good Hotel)
Regular sauna use offers numerous health benefits, both physical and mental. The heat promotes circulation, improving cardiovascular health and lowering blood pressure. Sweating helps detoxify the body by removing toxins through the skin. Sauna sessions can also boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and alleviate muscle pain, aiding in recovery after physical activity.
Mentally, saunas provide stress relief by promoting relaxation and encouraging the release of endorphins. The soothing heat can also enhance sleep quality and induce a meditative state. Additionally, saunas improve respiratory function, helping to clear airways and ease breathing.
Please see trip information here
Food and drink is offered as part of the MB experience. Why? Because food connects and telling local stories through food is important to us.
Workshops typically run 9am-1pm and 2pm-5pm, with catered lunch Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 1-2pm and refreshment breaks daily mid morning and mid afternoon. Catered dinner will be offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6pm if you’ve opted for this during registration.
In keeping with our commitment to the environment, the menu will be 100% vegetarian and vegan. Please confirm any additional dietary requirements via the registration form.
*Corporate members & sponsors: Your accommodation has already been arranged for Monday and Tuesday night (Bed & Breakfast) as standard. If you do not require accommodation, or just need it for one night, please let us know ASAP so we can remove the booking or gift to a member of the MB community. If you are in any doubt about whether or not accommodation is included in your package, please drop a note to the team for confirmation.
To avoid any unnecessary food waste, please do keep us posted with any changes in your plans around mealtimes.
Please consider arranging the most sustainable and environmentally friendly measures possible. We are happy to make suggestions and recommendations, please just get in touch.
We have looked to find eco-friendly and sustainable solutions that minimise waste and damage to the environment during the event. We hope you will also join this effort. Particularly if you are taking a high carbon travel option to MB2024, please consider measuring your footprint (i.e. here or here) and/or offsetting your carbon. For example, could you support the below projects – takes just a few minutes:
- Cody Dock: A Newham-based registered charity and social enterprise formed to act as a vehicle for the community-led regeneration of Cody Dock, and a vehicle for conservation, environmental and cultural benefit and our local waterways.
- Trees for Cities: Since 1993, the organisation has reported that 125,000 volunteers have planted over 1,200,000 urban trees in parks, streets, woodlands, schools, hospitals and housing estates.
- Woodland trust: Woodland Carbon is a scheme to encourage new tree planting that locks up the UK’s carbon emissions
National Trust: Make a donation today, and you’ll be helping them to plant and establish millions of trees by 2030
We really hope that the delegates will utilise the fantastic local public transport links or cycling routes during the MovingBeyond event. However, should you require it, please see information regarding parking.

Floating on the water at Royal Victoria Dock, we have chosen local social business Good Hotel as our official accommodation partner for this event – they donate profits to schools in rural Guatemala and train unemployed Newham locals in hospitality.
Please book directly* on the Good Hotel official website quoting code ‘MB2024’. This will unlock a special 15% discount off the best available rate. Don’t delay – we have a select number of rooms on hold on a first-come-first-served basis until Monday 30th September. https://goodhotel.co/london
Please do consider staying with us – in previous years, our locations have been more remote and we’ve designed the event around people staying on-site for the duration. However, due to budget challenges and wanting the experience to be as accessible as possible, we’re positioning overnight accommodation as an optional ‘add on’ for MB24.
From previous experience, we know that those who can stay open and commit to the whole offering get the most out of it personally and professionally. The invitation is to press pause on the regular run of the week, and dive into a space of connection and exploration. Imagine making the most of all the early morning and evening programming because it’s just a few steps away from your comfy bed!
Check in will be from 15:00 and check out will be at 11:00. If you arrive earlier or leave later than the times listed, your luggage can be stored with the hotel concierge.
If you are in doubt about whether or not your accommodation has been arranged for you by MB – please reach out to the team as soon as possible hello@movingbeyond.co.uk

To date, MovingBeyond has not had a presence on social media and we do not do external PR and marketing. We do this to protect the integrity of the space and sure everyone feels safe to show as their full selves.
Please feel free to capture content but please do not post anything about the event on social media until after the event has finished.
We will have a photographer on site taking candid photos throughout and you will have access to these photos post-event. If you do not wish to be featured in any photography, please make this known upon registration or speak to a member of the team on site.
Looking forward… we are on a journey and realise there is a need for us to embrace some more traditional marketing activity to promote what we do to help ensure the growth of MovingBeyond. We are looking to launch a Linkedin profile in 2024.
Registration for MB24 has now closed! If you have not yet registered you will not have a place at the event.
